Fellow 'Collapser' here, I didn't really know what happened, went hiking, backpacking, flew to miami, went to the gym all kinds of stuff on a 80% collapsed lung.. thought I just had a bad cold since I was in no pain but coughing alot. Only other obvious symptom I had was shortness of breath, couldn't hike more than 50 feet up a hill without me gasping for air and my heart jumping out of my chest. I only recall ever feeling 2 sharp pains, both around the same time. 1 was hiking near the twin sister peaks in rocky mountain forrest, the other was coughing on a cigarette. been almost 3 years, no cigarettes since.

Apparently spontaneous pneumo thorax only happens to tall people, and pot heads. Tall pot heads out there, BE CAREFUL! Every doctor that came in kept saying "hmm, your shorter than we expected".. thanks docs, reallllly need short jokes right now.

It still bothers me from time to time if I go running alot for a few days straight. Any of you other "collapsers" have that? It was really bad at first and they gave me a steroid/anti-inflammatory, which helped alot, but it still lingers.

Also I didn't understand why I needed to be awake for when they "went in"? They said it's usually because people are in extreme pain and can't wait. But I wasn't, so nkow me out doc! The sound/feeling of them craking your rib cage open to put the tube in.... blllluegheiegheh, makes me shiver.

Just wanted to post since never thought I'd get a chance to talk to so many folks who had this happen. Reddit once again, delivers.

So i'm not an anti-vaxer. my child has all their shots. but as someone with a young child it is really disconcerning to me to hear 1 in 59 kids are being diagnosed with autism. as a professional, If it's not vaccines, what is causing this drastic jump in diagnosis? I understand there is increased awareness but that does not account for the drastic increase in the past couple decades.

How have you survived so long, while such a high percentage using wing suits perish? Not as risky maneuvers?
