I was in China in april/may of '09 when I crossed from Pakistan. I can't say that I really liked China back then. The more towards the East I went the lesser I enjoyed my time there (hated BJ). Now, whilst heading towards finishing my bachelor degree, I've been thinking about going back to teach English and learn Chinese for a year. Good to know that within a year you can make some real progress. TEFL first though since I'm Dutch! Really enjoying this AMA so thanks again!
