Are you going to walk the Camino de Santiago? If you do I suggest walking the Camino del Norte along the northern coast - absolutely breathtaking views!

The story of your wife sounds like the story of my father, he lasted about 13 months from diagnosis of Glioblastoma, he went from the strongest person I knew to need assistance getting off the couch. Sorry for your losses.

Good luck! The south of Spain is beautiful as well but it gets sweltering too, I'd advise to not go during the summer.
