Did you expect to find such a bright line between those who come prepared, looking to support a particular story and those that wing it and let the interview progress to where it will go naturally? I found the frankness with which some, Ira Glass for example, said they were there to get certain 'tape' to fit a particular narrative to be a bit shocking.

Thanks, Jesse. I certainly wasn't trying to impugn Ira or his approach. That said, some of what he said could certainly have been pulled verbatim and used by anyone who wants to claim journalists are driving an agenda. It was so unguarded, and part of what gave me confidence that he wouldn't abuse the edit was how nonchalant he was is saying some of the things he said about it.

All that said, it seemed to be a topic you came back to in a few other interviews (the idea of whether people were editing in their head on the fly, listening for 'moments', or aware of how they were getting tape as they went), and for awhile it almost seemed like you were alternating back and forth between the two types of interviewers with each release. So, I thought it may have been a conscious theme/through-line. Thanks again for your answer, and thanks for creating such a terrific resource.
