Hi! As a medical student, I'm always interested to hear about people's interactions with the medical community. Have you ever had a bad experience with a health care team member who wasn't familiar with your disease? Any particularly good experiences? And finally, is there anything you wish that doctors actually asked about sometimes (I know you mentioned your mental health in another reply)?

Actually, mirroring is something I was taught in medical school as well for how to interact with patients of a different culture. You look at them as often as they look at you, shake their hand only if offered, smile when they smile, etc. This makes sure the patient is comfortable around you, regardless of their cultural background.

Glad you've had more good experiences than bad, though that doctor you mentioned really seemed out of line.
Thanks for the reply! All the best :)

Thats interesting. Nitisinone is already used to treat tyrosinemia (accumulation of tyrosine due a faulty enzyme); however, my understanding is that it causes an error in the bilirubin pathway, which would actually make you yellow.

Studying to be a doctor. Can confirm that someone switching to "salt-free" salt such as a potassium chloride is a classic exam question. Talk to your doctor before making such changes.
