It's the gruntiest grunt job a pixel pusher can do. Though I can roto with actually paying much mental attention to the task, so I've been able to listen to lots of books on tape and sort of enjoy the task. It's also not to stressful unless you have a tight deadline.

Now I'm just imagining a terrible headline like, "Paraplegic gold medalists now quadriplegic after terrorist attack."

My wife works in a research lab and the IRB can be very strict. For instance they are doing a study of childhood development and were thinking of adding some questions regarding happiness, because of the nature of the study they would be expected to hire a mental health specialist to assist any child showing behavior of extreme depression or self harm.

Literally adding a few questions would become a million dollar cost over tre course of several years.

Another example of strict oversight is a "Rockstar" principal investigator she used to know that submitted something to IRB for approval knowing that they would be fine with it. He went ahead and started before IRB got back and eventually they realized what happened and now no university in the US will touch him with a 10 foot pole. His request was approved but skirting IRB got him blacklisted.
