What would be overpaid? In my neighbourhood, the average household income is like $60k. While one teacher makes $90k per year. Seems like the opposite problem you face in the USA.

this is really interesting to me. if i understand this, your career path changed due to finding a federal funding source? it sort of boggles my mind that scientist's are following what the gov't funds. seems backwards.

You should move to Ontario, Canada. 90k per year after something like 10 years in the union.

It's provincially budgeted (like a state as opposed to municipal). I googled for 2 minutes but most of the results were BS in terms of taking away pension or whatever. My 2 best friends are married to teachers... and have 3 teachers on the GF's side. Up here, it is a career path which guarantees people a upper-middle class lifestyle - which is sort of a problem being teachers are so protected by the union that shitty people just wanting the pay are protected and get paid the same as good teachers.
