I just want to point out that, as it was stated before, he didn't violate OPSEC in his blogs. These "social media savvy" guys we are fighting could very well find out the same info he posted on your facebook or twitter, and was very much allowed. The only way OP is a victim is due to the fact that he didn't want to take an opportunity away from someone who might make steps in their career with it, and was chastised.
It is actually considered healthy by most "head doctors" in the military to blog about certain aspects of deployment, during or after, as long as you don't give away sensitive info, which is clarified well before you are on your way to the sandbox. It was OP's way of a healthy outlet for his frustrations and personal conflicts. Those every day occurrences you mention can range from having to walk a quarter mile from your chu to the latrine to piss in the middle of your sleep shift to "We got hit by an IED today. It sucked."
As for bad talking his BC, he could have been just venting with no real malice intended for his CoC, but as we who have served know, perception is 9/10ths of the law in the military.

This. Unless it causes loss of life or limb, is morally unethical (by military standards), or violates rules set by a higher authority, any order can be considered lawful, no matter how stupid, and failure to follow can result in a discharge under less than honorable circumstances, or worse, military prison.
As stupid as shutting down the blog may be, risking years of defamation or prison isn't worth standing up for an HTML file with pictures on it. That may be different in the civilian world, but in the military, you learn to pick your battles. It's a lot harder to explain social liberties to Col. Green Beret who has kicked down more doors than you've walked through.
