I dont know how commercial dive companies will do it(they might have a temporary shelter for them to climb into) but for recreational diving and some tech diving, you are literally holding onto the anchor line, breathing your specific mix of gases for X' of depth and playing rock paper scissors with your buddy for however long your deco stop takes.

My deepest depth was 137' and I was solo diving(commercial purposes) which means I was on that anchor line at every stop by myself. It can get boring... Bring some hotdogs. Feed the fish

I worked as a DM for a recreational shop/boat operation and this was my bosses biggest pet peeve. He had the shop manager check every one if my bottles for probably the first 3 months! I knew right away they weren't messing around. I'm glad thats who I first learned from!
