What’s the scope of your mosquito abetment program? Disney World is surrounded by a lot of wet and swamp terrain, and I wonder how much it takes to keep mosquitos away from the park.

Is there anything we can infer about the altitudes at which Santa’s sleigh operates based on the fact that Santa Tracking stayed with NORAD instead of going to Space Force?

I was thinking more of their crazier decisions in the latest terms rather than Dobbs.

Like overturning affirmative action in college admissions after 60+ years in ways that will spill over into labor law, or using a tortured reading of the 1970/1977 laws that stop the EPA from protecting wetlands as it’s done for 50+ years and 8 presidential administrations, or ruling that protected classes aren’t really protected after 50+ years now that businesses have a first amendment religious right to discriminate against protected classes in a hypothetical case where the plaintiff made up the details of the case. And their ruling on student loan forgiveness ignored the plain language of the statute.

That specific web designer didn't have an actual client who'd requested a gay wedding website. The "client" who'd requested the website is a heterosexual man married to a woman for the past 15 years and claimed he never made the request.

The lawsuit should never have proceeded because the web designer never needed protection from a fictional client request.

The only thing this ruling does is allow people to claim exemptions for all kinds of bias for religion. If it's just about services for gay weddings, it's a waste of time and resources for everyone involved. If it's actually the doorway for pharmacists to refuse to fulfill birth control to women not wearing a wedding ring because adultery is a violation of their personal religious beliefs (instead of acknowledging that some people carry a higher risk of some forms of cancer and being pregnant or on birth control mitigates that risk) puts pious assholes much further up everyone's business than they need to be.

Also, the Jewish store owners could already have denied service to the Neo-Nazi party because Nazis are not a protected class or status.

Designing a website isn't speech. Web designers don't write copy or make the images. They make a rough template for what a web page should look like by defining space for specific elements (headers, copy, images) and specify fonts and colors. Other people are responsible for the content. Saying a web designer is compelled to make speech is like a bookbinder saying that printing and binding someone else's manuscript is making speech. What this does is give racists a way to legally discriminate against protected classes in bad faith--a racist copy story owner can refuse to print a black politician's campaign mailers and claim it's because they have religious objections to the politician's positions rather than their race. Protected classes exist because there's been a historical and ongoing patterns of people being denied their civil rights based on their race, gender, and religion so there are laws designed to make it easier for them to get justice faster.
