How much money do you have stashed away? I don't mean in terms of real dollars, I mean if cost of living (utilities, mortgage, taxes, groceries, etc, etc.) for a year is X then how much of X do you have? How long can you coast between the seasonal aspects that you have already enumerated?

I have built a bullet trap from a Polypropylene drum, tilted at a 40'ish degree angle with a door cut on the side that faces up (on a hinge) and a PVC pipe attached to the top of the drum using a flange. Fill the drum with water or medium of choice, close the door, fire away, clear your firearm, open the door and now you have a bullet trap that doesn't soak you.
