Wikipedia suggests 77% of Australia's power is generated by coal (granted that reference seemed to be 2003 so that might well have changed). That said I can't believe coal is currently any less than 50%.

Most of NSW is coal fired from the Hunter Valley with some hydro for peak from the Snowy. My understanding was that most of Victoria was low coking coal, Tasmania is mostly hydro but has the undersea power line to transfer both ways. Not sure of Qld but I would gave thought coal from the Galilee Basin. WA us a mish mash of things because of distance. Don't know a lot about SA but thought you guys had a fair percent of geothermal and purchased a lot of the rest from the grid.
