Why the fuck is this guy being down voted? What he said is completely true. The harsh truth is that slavery was pretty commonly accepted at the time, even by northerners. They didn't use slaves because they didn't need them. Slowly, as slaves fought in the war with the northerners and were promised freedom opinions started to change. The South seceded because they felt they were being treated unfairly, as much of the government's decisions were biased towards Northerners, because that's where the government was located. There were few representatives from the South. While slavery definitely played a role in the war, it was far from the most important cause. Don't be so naive.
