Wow. I read the blog post and I honestly don't know where to stand on the issue. On one hand, I tend to think GRRM is right, and Bradley shouldn't have actively encouraged fanfiction, but I also think it doesn't have to be as black and white as that. Very interesting.

Also, at this point in the books/show, the final battle lines are starting to be drawn. If someone on fanfiction writes an ending that happens to be similar to the one GRRM puts out, what happens? Does the FF author just get "hey, cool, you called it!"? Or what?

Maybe a sitewide fanfiction rule that disavows all rights pertaining to the original source when posted? That gets messy legally, though.

That's interesting. I guess it shouldn't surprise me how much research is put into a role, but that's still a hefty amount.
