Do you get paid for the time worked during the shutdown once the government is running again?

As a British person, I think we're better off without national service. While I can see the benefits of it, I think it's better to have a smaller, better trained and more motivated armed forces comprised of volunteers who are there because they want to be, rather than a load of 18/19 year olds who don't want to be there or put the effort in.

Edit: this is from a UK perspective, I understand that different countries with more aggressive neighbours will have different stances and may need to mobilise large numbers of troops at little notice.

The trick is to kill them before they’re monarchs, that way it’s only murder, not high treason.
