Wasted draft/cap investment by the team in a position that the Ravens are weak at.

On the slacking part, the point made by many fans is that interior lineman was one of the weakest positions over the last couple of years and John, by committing to an intense FT program (as against just doing PT/when available) when he faces off peers/competitors who commit the down time during regular season as well as most of off season to training.

You sound pretty judgmental. Please read again. This has nothing to do with Flacco or anyone's salary ; not sure how you even came up with that.

The point Cheebasaur made is that some other college kid could have used this opportunity to be a part of the NFL roster, and develop into a quality player given years of training as a squad member, instead of someone who always considered football as secondary interest and retired around the time when the Ravens most needed him i.e. hit by several injuries to the OL.

Seeing as our starting RT is a UDFA, C is a 6th round, and LG is another UDFA,.... yes.

The news that you were also taking full-time courses even during the regular season has not gone down well with some of us Ravens fans, including the ones at r/Ravens, given the inconsistency of the interior line over the season.

How did the organization react to it ? Was there ever a discussion about it after you retired ?

Your Q was about a 5th rounder getting a multi year contract, becoming a starter etc and you're still asking me how it has anything to do with your comment ?

Ohh btw, Ravens starting RT for last year Rick Wagner was a 5th round pick and became the best paid RT in NFL this off season. So yea you damn right we expect our OL to do well, be it 5th, 6th, or UDFA.
