James: I am the founder of the Blacks In Technology organization. We have over 1500 members nationwide and even some abroad. All are POC in the technology industry. Although we have quite a large and growing membership base, getting people to engage more in the community is a task in itself. We have forums, podcasts (would love to have you on as a guest) , IRC room, etc. What would your advice be on creating a more engaging atmosphere where people are more willing to participate in great technical discussions?

James: Thanks for the response. The org has partnered with conference organizers like O'Reilly, PuppetLabs, DevOps Days, and others to offer access to the conferences and travel scholarships for some. There is still a barrier when it comes to enticing the community to attend these type of conferences. Organizing a conference of our own has actually been talked about and creating community and most importantly, trust, is a big focus of ours so that may be a road to take, although I do like the idea of co-locating a workshop. That actually is a great idea. Thanks for your response and the invitation is there if you ever want to make an appearance on our podcast. Take care.
