What does the ding sound I occasionally hear indicate? I'm talking the ones that don't correspond to the flight attendant button or the seatbelt sign.

Hi! Thanks for doing this AMA. This question is about my dad who is in his mid-50s and lost his job in academia due to COVID. He’s been a professor at the same small college his entire career. He is now going to have to pivot careers as he’s not in a position to retire yet (not do I think he wants to if he could).

With that background, my question is: what advice would you give older folks who are looking to change careers? Are there career services or resume helpers out there who specialize in that sort of thing?
