I had no idea what you were talking about, so I briefly looked into it, and it sounds like an absurd conspiracy theory. What exactly is the hypothesis? That he somehow created Lyme disease? This doesn't make sense because humans have been infected with Lyme disease for at least 5300 years. Perhaps people suspect him of transporting lone star ticks from Texas to CT? That's certainly plausible, but lone star ticks don't transmit Lyme disease, and they are endemic to a large region, not just TX and the northeast. Unless I'm missing something, it sounds like a lot of nonsense. Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm guessing that probably they rely on quantum signals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_random_number_generator

What are/were you in grad school for?

You are correct that OP does not suggest that the guy created lyme disease, but OP is vaguely hinting that something happened without explicitly saying anything:

so much speculation has gone into his possible involvement with lyme disease. Also classified!

So my comment asks what this is supposed to mean. Read the other comments here, or do a Google search and you'll find some nonsensical allegations that this guy was somehow responsible for Lyme disease. Such allegations seem to hinge on the suggestion that a former Nazi scientist is incapable of legitimate peacetime research.

I was curious as to whether there was some plausible theory out there which I had missed.

Ya, I get impatient when I sense bullshit. Unintentionally or intentionally releasing a biological weapon sounds like something the government might do, considering all the other messed up stuff like MKULTRA, and more currently NSA. So I want to know whether something similar happened here. However I don't want to believe so badly that I'm willing to rewrite the history of an ancient disease to reinforce my worldview. I felt like I wasted my time trying to research this, because I couldn't pinpoint a single plausible allegation. So perhaps my impatience came across, and made it sound like I was pushing an agenda. :(
