I live and work in New York City. I see dozens and dozens of homeless people every day, even saw a dead homeless guy on the pavement once.

Sometimes I give them a couple bucks, sometimes I just ignore them. Do you think the money I give them helps anything? Their situation never looks any better, I see the same miserable looking guys/girls all the time. What is the best way to help a random homeless person?

I bought food for a guy once and he got mad at me because it was chicken and he didn't want chicken. so now I don't buy food for homeless people anymore, and just give them like 2 dollars. Hopefully it helps them, I don't expect "karma" or anything. I just help because it's nice to help people who need it when you are in a position to do so.
