I understand what your goal is, it's just this "us vs them" mentality seems unprofessional.

Exactly, I don't see why it has to be about trying to prove someone wrong. Just realize that people have different opinions and try to find a common ground that benefits both.

Like WensleydaleTheWizard said, a compromise or agreement between both groups. It doesn't have to be about "you're wrong I'm right", it should be about people having different opinions/beliefs and them reaching a common ground that works for both parties.
