Having lived in the US for 8 years, I feel like the US foreign policy does not interest Americans (wonderful people, just different priorities) to such an extent as they would want to change it. This gives US foreign policy makers more free reign. As the global hegemony, the US seeks to keep it's financial, diplomatic and military superiority over the rest of the world. This is natural of course, every top power wants to secure its position as the top power. However, what worries me, is that the Cold War mindset is still heavily present in American circles (of course it's also present in our government circles and it concerns me but I'm writing about why America worries me). This is why the Wolfowitz doctrine is the go to policy paper on American decisions since the 90's, this is why I feel like even when we can cooperate, we choose not to. Unlike the EU, we don't share a border, we don't have a lot of trade, and we don't often visit each others countries. I feel as though these aspects are crucial to a level headed approach to foreign policy between great powers. I don't see the same reactions to Russian actions from the EU that I see from the US.

The EU is less appealing to countries like Belarus than you may think. Within the Eurasian economic union, their industrial and agricultural goods can compete and find a niche on the market. I doubt the EU is willing to give up the market share of their own companies to Belarussian dairy products and buses. We can see what happens when a country that is industrially tied to Russia decides to break off said ties on hopes of eventual EU ascension in the face of Ukraine.

I think ultimately it depends on EU russia relations in the following 2-3 decades. As a Russian, I would personally like to see a strong EU. I feel a lot more threatened by a strong US

As if all who don't have English as their first language are bad at it.

Hm, I don't agree with someone else's point of view, so I'm gonna insult them!
