My interest is not that of a secret-keeper looking for tips, rather a (layman's) interest in the topic. It's more or less a given that a pathological liar has a secret that their entire personality has adapted to preserve. But what about compulsive liars? There seems to be no particular rhyme or reason to their lying, no motivation other than to see what they can get away with. But perhaps, as with pathological liars, the compulsion to lie does trace back to a need to keep secrets. Has that been your experience?

Are pathological or compulsive liars 'created' out of a necessity (or perceived necessity) to keep secrets? What is the correlation between lying and secret-keeping? In cases where the (let's assume life-altering) secret is revealed, will they be 'cured', or continue to lie?
