My wife and I have tried to get into home fermented foods for years, but we always quit after a few weeks because the vegetables look and smell pretty potent- we just aren't brave enough to really eat them, though we do usually try them.
Are there tips you discovered that might help us embrace our fermentations instead of being afraid of them?

I was speaking with a colleague the other day, discussing how we reflexively use the term "antisemitism" when what we really mean "anti-Jewish," since we aren't talking about discrimination/hatred/etc. toward Semitic-speaking peoples in general.
How do you explain or, if you want, defend, continued use of the term, given it's ambiguity and general muddiness?
