Thank you for the answer! This is a very important topic to me, as I have been abused by authority figures in the past and strive to be a good leader. It feels a bit strange to be in my 30s and taking cues from a fictional rabbit, but as you say Hazel just seemed so sensible and trustworthy.
Was John Gifford aware of his role in the book? What did he think about inspiring such a character?

Fucking Lahey! You cut me in line at the Winnipeg airport a few years back. It was like 6am and we were the only two people around! You walked right in front of me at the ticket desk, I scoffed, and you turned around to reveal your identity and give me an arrogant look. I couldn't even respond!

Hello Mr Adams! Watership Down was my first exposure to the concept of leadership. In my professional life I have intentionally adapted Hazel's leadership style, where he never seems to order anybody to do anything, but rather guides and advises a team of individuals.
my question is, was this style inspired by somebody that you knew in real life?
