You can make it full time profession if you do basketball instead of baseball. More money in it. D1 baseball umpire gets 400, D1 basketball can get up to 2500 per game. I do both baseball and basketball, youth, high school, summer college ball. 9 months out of the year I do games and make enough to pay my way through college with living expenses. I do about 500 games a year.

I can relate. You always want to have a consistent zone. When you call one that you feel is out of that consistency, it can play havoc in your head. Making it that much harder to stay consistent.

No because then you get into a mentality where you're calling calls wrong. Bad habit to have.

Let's say based are loaded with 2 outs. Batter hits the ball into the outfield. All 3 runners score. The runner who started on first, missed 2nd base but made it all the way home. The batter runner then gets tagged out at home for the 3rd out. On appeal, the runner from first is called out for the 4th out, cancelling the run.

You get coaches trying to bribe you all of the time with their nice attitudes and extreme politeness. Those are the ones you need to watch out for. They turn on you by the first call that doesn't go their way.
