Have you ever had patients/victims who started out as abusers, but out of regret or remorse allowed themselves to be harassed/abused? How would you go about shaping their mindset, in that people might find them being hypocritical for supporting causes that they have violated?

Sorry if that was vague, but I think I got the answers I was looking for. Thank you and more power to your work!

Can you say (and maybe even convince people) that sexual offenders can still truly sympathize with victims of sexual violence, if they really feel so? Does it depend on their offense? Is there be a process/a test that could "certify" that they can despise an offense they've committed?

Moreover, is there a way or is it possible for sexual offenders to feel genuine regret/sympathy over their victim?
