Because they are fast acting. SSRIs have their own side effects that may or may not be affecting you. One big one is loss of libido but there many others. You get horrible withdrawals from getting off of SSRIs as well.

Obviously not a doc but I recommend therapy, meditation, exercise and a healthy diet and then benzos only if a panic attack is eminent.
