Hey OP, if your shoe size is 1.5 sizes different or larger you can get split sizes at Nordstrom for no extra charge. I used to work there and not many people knew about it.
You probably already know this, but if you want to make your shoe fit better on your smaller foot you can add extra insoles and a tongue pad. A tongue pad is a piece of felt that goes on the tongue of your shoe and it will push your foot backwards so your heel sits snugly in the back of the shoe. If you need any shoe advice send me a message.

Its corporate greed in its purest form. They see customers and employees as a means to an end (read bigger profits). Once upon a time retail stores - even modest ones prided themselves on their customer service and quality of employees. Now days its a race to the bottom. The online experience isn't inherently better than shopping in a physical store, its just less shitty. People prefer to physically see and handle items before they buy them while taking them home the same day, something online shopping cannot realistically compete with but somehow its still better. I don't think online shopping killed retail, retail shot its self in the fucking face.

Nordstrom isn't as expensive as everyone thinks it is, plus their staff (especially in men's shoes) will know their shit. If you go to a good shoe store and get measured & fitted they will have extra insoles and tongue pads to make sure everything is comfortable.

And no ones surprised, what a fucking joke.
edit: I've been in this position myself. A retail company that only looks at who pushes the high margin items the best - be it memberships, warranties or specific items. Customer service, job knowledge or years of experience mean nothing. It drives me absolutely insane when companies wonder why people would rather buy shit on Amazon instead of getting in their car to drive to a store with higher prices and worse customer service only to be harassed while trying to patronize that business.
