Is there any strategic leadership for the opposition? I fear there will be a violent government crackdown, and hope someone is anticipating it and maybe even has a plan.

Well said. I think a good example of "seriousness" was Shin Lim's card magic. He used music and smoke and basically every cheesy stereotype of magic, and still pulled off an amazing, serious routine. Almost anyone with a jaded view of magic would still appreciate it. I usually prefer irreverence or comedy as the "packaging" for magic, but the truth is, there are lots of ways to make it fresh, including just being damn good.
