While of course bitcoin could keep climbing... it is just insanity to leave all your money in it (or any of it really). He could sell it all, put it in a broad market index and have money to fall back on for the rest of his life. That is a really nice option to risk on a poker game.

Should probably also consult a tax attorney. Because the IRS is going to come knocking now that he has publicly admitted to selling a business with bitcoin to illegally evade taxes.

Not a question, but I just want to put this out there for all the non-developers, but the fact that Photopea was created by a single programmer is absolutely astounding. As a developer myself, I cannot fathom the productivity of this developer nor have I ever met someone that could be this productive. Teams of 10-20 developers could not match the functionality and feature list of photopea.

And actually, here is a question after all, have you ever recorded or livestreamed yourself coding? I'm having a hard time imagining the pace required to be this productive. Do you have an estimate of the number of hours you have put into this?

Although I don't know the specifics of houses in Detroit, I do have some experience with a super cheap house in another city. What usually happens is you become the target of city inspectors after you buy it. With our house, we were constantly bombarded with fines and inspections and deadline dates to get it fixed quickly. When the judge was asked why no one else in the neighborhood was being fined and targeted and brought into court under tight deadlines, the answer was "oh, they don't have the money to fix up their houses". So I would imagine this sort of thing happened to people who bought super cheap houses in Detroit as well.

Unlikely but possible? More like very likely. There is very little inherent value in bitcoin (technically 0 inherent value, but it does have value in some situations where people need it, like war torn countries or the illegal drug and sex trade). The value is purely based on speculation. It will almost certainly go below 1,000 again. Just like last time when it went up to 1500 or whatever and then spent a year below 200. I'm sure it will go up some more too. But one thing is for sure, anyone who makes money on it will do it simply out of pure luck.
