Just as another perspective as an Oglala (Lakota), I find Redskins offensive because it's pandering, cultural appropriation and similar to blackface. But I just wanted to offer another perspective so people don't think that just because one Native person think it's okay (which is okay), all natives do. And it's not because we're "offended by everything" but it's rooted in real, experienced, racial trauma.

Just to add, pow wows aren't cultural or traditional to a particular tribe, it's pan-indian, not largely specific to one tribe.

That's it too, it's so easy for them to dismiss us as "irrational" or illogical because we are offended. It's so easy for them to tell us to "assimilate" or get over it and don't even realize the privilege that comes with that statement. But it's good to see another Lakota on here.

I grew up in bordern town for a bit, that is the biggest truth if I ever read it. I think that is something many will never understand. The constant looks and follows, you know in the deep in your mind what that look means but for some reason, everyone will doubt our experiences because we're sensitive. Shit, do I look like I get joy from being this pissed off or that I want to have racist shit said to me? That's what I don't get the most. Like people think we choose to be sensitive, if I could ignore it, I would but I know it's wrong and it will impact native youth, and that is why I speak against it.

I know a few natives that went that way, they all say the same thing about the northwest. I might have to check it out one day.
