I'm sorry to hear that, but I am not at all surprised by your response because I live in India. We've been fighting a lot for women's rights here, what happened to you is not exclusive to foreigners. Unfortunately our voices fall on deaf ears, women often get harassed during women's rights protests, which is incredibly sad for me to see.

You should be relatively safe in developed cities in the southern parts of India and in Mumbai if you go to the west. You probably won't be harrased in those places, but people will certainly try to con you. You should always bring someone with you though, stay safe if you ever visit here.
