I'd say the closest thing to a link is that the fascination that a certain Norse individual has with linens and napping is reminiscent of the obsession that a certain telephone sanitizing ship's captain had with bathing.

The switch to Gently's universe was shocking to my then-young mind. HHGTTG is sci-fi themed satire with hilarious metaphors. Dirk Gently is polished wood and British school themed insanity, with unbelievably funny scenes. It was really hard to get into them at first, since the setting was so foreign to me.

I seem to recall laughing to the point of nearly passing out at the line, "I, too, have the advantage of you, Ms. Schechter." So if that's your kind of humor, then I highly recommend the series. Obviously that last sentence is a joke, but what can you do? If you told people that HHGTTG was about a two headed alien president stealing an improbable ship and a man in a bathrobe, they wouldn't get it either...

1) how do you keep your electronics charged? I did the Pacific Coast in 2010 and that was a big problem for me, and I didn't even have a smartphone yet!

2) you went to Japan, did you tour it by bicycle? I've looked into this and I'm told you simply can't ride a bike on many connecting roads, meaning you'd have to take a train between many locations.

What, do you think people in 3rd world countries are desperate to own a tent, sleeping bag, bicycle, panniers, and a GoPro to document their life?
