That's an interesting suggestion. I've often wondered if the legal age for cannabis should be increased, its detrimental effects on the developing brain are well known, and considering the brain is still developing well into the 20s. Here the legal age is 18 and at that age I began smoking it on a daily basis for several years because I finally had regular access to it.

Even more relevantly, given the right (or rather, wrong) neurochemistry, cannabis is also a potent psychedelic and seems to have a nasty habit of triggering these underlying mental disorders. It's anecdotal but every single person (except for one) I know who has had a psychosis has been a heavy, daily user of cannabis for at least 1.5-2 years before their first episode. I saw the same thing happening to people over and over again and nobody was taking my warnings seriously, and everyone was acting like it's completely harmless. Sure, for most people it is, but most people aren't the kind of people who are drawn to being high every waking hour.

I hope we will eventually see some kind of genetic testing that will let you know if it's safe for you to experiment with psychedelics and with cannabis, because right now there's only one way to find out, and you really don't want to be part of that 1%.
