But is the profession better off without him? Are we? No. Poeple like OP should be commended for their actions and their ideas and ideals promoted.

Last cruise I took we were told that of we were late back to port from an excursion we bought through the cruise line, they would wait for us, or if worse came to worse they would arrange and pay for travel to the next port.

It was only if you booked your excursion through a third party (or didn't have an excursion at all and just got hammered in a port bar) that you were screwed.

I more or less make my living on upsells, and this is the approach that I take. As an added bonus, it lets me live with myself knowing that I didn't 'turn my hat around and rip out their throats'. Knowing that you are providing solutions for people will probably make you happier, which will give you more confidence, which will make you more money.

Sales doesn't have to be sleazy.

Have you seen anyone get hired after being let go from another department? I got hired last year to one and things didn't work out; I got let go for what one of my academy mates referred to as 'complete bullshit, you should a lawyer and sue this department if that's why they let you go'. I've started testing again and have never list my drive and love, I'm just nervous about how to approach this issue if I ever get to the background investigation. I learned a lot about myself and while I emphatically disagree with my former department's decision, I think I'm better off somewhere else.

Any advice on how to approach this?

I know you're gone from this AMA, but if you can see it past these whiney brats who want you use your AMA as an opportunity to air their grievances against some invisible spector that apparently stole all the opportunity on the world and gave it to the rich, would you mind telling us how you got into such an unusual business? The idea of making people's wild ideas come true seems like a cool business to be in.
