Hand lighting shows is a really fun experience and a huge rush.

It has to be the dark salutes though. The ones with out the tails.

On big shoots we put a lift charge on some diesel fuel to get a big flame ball.

This was a electronically shot show, the ques to fire the shells was handled by a computer program ( like FireOne). A lot of times a program is made for after the show to push power to every wire connected to the modules ( what the E-Matches plug into to interface with the computer) just in case there are any shells left over. Someone loaded this program instead of the actual show.

The shells exit the mortars with so much force it doesn't really matter too much. You just want to keep the embers from hitting the black match ( the wick). It can really screw up your show when daisy chained shell just start firing.
