Regarding the waste problem, how viable is recycling?

The point should be to compare it with other alternatives to decide which is best. The point shouldn't be just getting to say "nuclear is bad!". Those statistics don't exactly apply to other energy sources so it doesn't make sense to use that perspective when deciding which is the best way of generating electricity.

Because it's a direct comparison of ups versus downs. What the technology gives us versus what it takes from us, in a quantifiable way which we can use to compare with other technologies.

A better metric is deaths per terawatt-hour.
