Could someone explain what all the manuscripts you refer to above are? I love DnD, but have never heard of any of them...

The interesting thing is that Beck actually read the book and had formed some opinions on it worth discussing. That he disagreed with Gladwell is only one minor and insufficient step to the end result of an interesting discussion.

I've had lots of discussions with people who I have profound disagreements with and, surprise surprise, they didn't offer anything but the same trite opinions I could have heard from their favourite talking head on their favourite 24hr news network...

That's great the Beck more thought into the book than people would have expected though.

How did you come up with $25 a day for Laos? Are there any good books or websites that have ballpark per day costs for a bunch of different countries?

My wife and I live in New Zealand, but are originally from Canada (her) and the US (me). We want to travel for 3 months sometime between June and December next year. We want to travel on the cheap and go somewhere warm to escape the southern hemisphere winter. So we were originally thinking South East Asia or central America, but it looks like it's the rainy season that half of the year.

So do you have any good suggestions for somewhere warm? Off the beaten track would be great!
