Once there was a man who pretended to play the piano.

So good was he at this, that while he was pretending to play the old piano in the local pub, people would stop and come to listen to him. His fake piano playing drew customers to the pub, and he was given free drinks and food and people would put money in his glass. Eventually he could buy a piano of his own, spending hours every day pretending to play it.

This man got so good at pretending to play the piano that he filled concert halls with people, all happy to listen to his fake tunes. He could even make up new fake tunes, that had never been heard before, and other piano players--real, genuine piano players--would learn them and play them properly.

Many years later, after decades committed to the long con, the man was dying. On his deathbed he whispered to his devoted wife and children, "I have no idea how to play the piano. I've never taken a single lesson. All I have ever done has been to pretend to play it."

And the wife said, "We know. We have always known. But you pretend so well, that it has never mattered."

Do you think the culture of sexual assault is different in those other nations?

There's a scene in Starship Troopers where the various recruits all shower together without it being remotely a big deal (scary or titillating) for anyone; do you think this would ever be culturally feasible for Americans, the way it is for (say) Swedes?
