There was a train derailment years ago in my town. They closed down the major road next to the spill for hours. It wasn't on the road road by the way. The spill was activated carbon. Ummmm can activate carbon be a problem? Isn't it used to clean up some chemical spills?

There is a free mobile app called SoilWeb. I'm on mobile and don't know how to link it. It will tell you what kind of soil is right where you are. It uses your phone's GPS. You can't enter an address but it's still interesting.

Have you read Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan? The section on potatoes is fascinating. But he had also made plenty of enemies. I'm curious what you think about the book.
