I was reading about this at some point, about how the neural pathways of the brain have sub-conscious on-off switches (not just closing your eyes). For example, when you look are thinking about a particularly hard maths problem, you can experience - and usually you don't notice until you think back over the moment - temporary blindness. This is because you brain is focusing on one particular region. Neurology fascinates me!
