I think it probably depended on what was done to that country as to how they treated the defeated Germany.

  • USA & Canada - Not invaded nor bombed
  • UK - Bombed and attempted blockade
  • France - Occupied and Forced Labour though some collaboration
  • Russia - Almost a war of annihilation

The Germans in the East fled the advancing Russians - The German 9th and 12th Armies crossed at Tangermünde to surrender to the American rather than the Russians.

EDIT - we are talking about

Germany

not Japan. Did Germany bomb Pear harbour or was it JAPAN? (Hint Japan and Hawaii are both islands in the Pacific)

What will happen when Mugabe dies? Will things get better or will the Zanu-PF factions start fighting each other?

I know the cyber nats will down vote the heck out of this but here goes

SNP claim oil is the salvation yet they triumph their green credentials, so how do you square being green with deep water oil exploration? Isn't oil a fossil fuel that the renewables are supposed to replace

Renewables - what happens when the wind blows at the wrong time, or too much or not enough, that's what we need pump storage hydro for and we've used all easy sites (same BTW for wave power)

EU - yes Scotland will be welcomed with an open tax grab. If any one wants an idea of what will happen, ask about Scotland's share of the EU UK rebate. We'd loose that in a nanosecond, if not sooner. Plus given how we're to be this rich country with a budget surplus, the EU will demand/take that for EU harmonisation/stabilisation. Don't believe me? even the greeks contribute the UK rebate!

Edit: What about Spain - Doubt Span will easily let you in the EU as Catalonia or the Basques will be next and Spain will fight that

Common Energy Policy - What's to stop some Eurocrat dreaming this up? We have the common fisheries and policy common agriculture policy they've been roaring successes for Scotland haven't they. As good Europeans Scotland would accept that wouldn't she?

Of course with over 50% (some say 80%) of the legislation being EU driven what exactly are we becoming independent of?

A Man who changes one master for another is a slave.
