another longtime gamer here. I love gaming too, and I don't think you're some crazed cheeto hate freak. But I hate gamergate because of the numerous instances where it's members have publicly threatened women. Felicia day wrote this: http://thisfeliciaday.tumblr.com/post/100700417809/the-only-thing-i-have-to-say-about-gamer-gate, a really pretty mild criticism of the movement, and was instantly doxxed. This is a woman who has real life stalkers, and that shit ain't funny. For the people engaging in this kind of behavior, it is very clearly largely about misogyny.

Now I'm sure you don't condone that, but if you're speaking under the same hashtag as it, and you're not criticizing it, then you're passively supporting it whether you mean to or not. Sure, the gaming press is slimy, but it's not really them that's making gamers look bad, it's the people doing this shit. And if we want to be seen in a better light then we have to act better
