My guess: you can't pack a stadium for bowling. The size of the "playing field", the traditional setting, small number of players, etc. all work against the commercialization of the sport. Even with the rise of broadcasted viewing over stadium attendance, bowling strategy isn't plain to see like it is with active team sports and thus is harder to be understood outside the bowling community.

Hospitals sometimes let you use their scanning tools for a fee. A medical center I used to work at would offset the cost of MRI machines by doing scans of obejcts for businesses and organizations. My memory says ~$1200 per scan for high-definition, density-mapped models.

If the designs were not being developed professionally, hobbyists and other interests will do so by utilizing the designs and materials developed to print other robust devices. The world needs to prepare for the fact that regulation of physical objects will soon be akin to regulating the currents of the oceans. If your country ignores the inevitable or is content with playing the blame-game, your peaceful state will not last long.
