The E-class and Triple E-class container ships currently run the AE-10 line for Maersk that will soon bump to 14 by the time the Triple E sets sail in 20 some odd days. Plans are up for a total of 24 ports of call. It is much easier and less hassle (and ALOT less polluting) to have one GIANT vessel like a Triple E-class when it comes to ship traffic then to have 2 post panamax or 3 panamax sized ships come calling.

One of the E-class Maersk ships did this in 09. I'm trying to dig up the story. Took out a 110ft "mothership" after being hit with an RPG.

AE-10 is Maersk's Asia to Europe route. For the US, Maersk has signed with Norfolk VA and sends in what is now classed "new panamax" ships via europe and obviously via the new large locks in 2015 in panama when they open. Only about 150 ft shorter and 20 ft thinner.

Norfolk VA, Baltimore MD, and Long Beach CA can take a ship CLOSE to this size (1100 ft by 160ft with 50 draft/draught whatev...) but not this ship.

AE-10 route for Maersk is typically 42 days round trip.
