First off, I can't describe how thankful I am for guys like you that served or are serving. No amount of words can convey the respect most of y'all deserve. Secondly, I've read a lot about the Vietnam war, mostly stuff like Six Silent Men by Gary Linderer about the LRRP teams, Col. Bob Stoffeey's Cleared Hot, Flying Through Midnight by John Halliday about the bombing runs in Laos, Gone Native by Alan Cornett about his part in the Phoenix Program, a a heck of a lot of other books. Many of them are accounts from soldiers who fought at some point. (Those are just the ones I can see on my bookshelf from where I'm sitting/what I remember of them.) Thanks to that I've had a pretty healthy interest in the Vietnam war, so I think it's great that you're offering to answer questions about it; I think more people need to learn about what really happened rather than assumptions or misconceptions that are spread around. tl;dr: Thanks many times over for what you did; Vietnam wasn't a pointless war in my opinion and I believe y'all fought for something good.

Gary Linderer actually wrote the 3rd book in the series, two other guys he collaborated with wrote the first two books, but all three are titled Six Silent Men and deal mainly with the history and legacy of LRRP teams. They did extensive interviews with veterans over four or five years along with personal experience to make the books, along with a few other books about Vietnam, all really good in my opinion. Honestly, I believe we suffer more from non-information than misinformation. By that I mean in high school we barely brushed the Vietnam war, other than to say "oh it was an effort to curb communism around the world, and, uh...it was controversial. Yeah. Moving on!" I feel like that, along with a lot of other moments in history, are just...left out. Which means my generation and others are at risk of repeating past mistakes. That's why I'm so grateful you're willing to talk and answer questions about the subject; I understand war and personal experiences from war isn't always easy to talk about. Also, I've been reading some other comments, and I have a question: if it could be arranged for you to go to one of the Ranger Regiment meetings or reunions would you be willing to go? I'm sure there are a lot of veterans in your situation who are unable or have trouble walking our getting around, but who would love to go to a meeting like that. There has to be a way to arrange for people like y'all to attend as well if you wanted; I mean, y'all fought for this country, surely we can do a little in return right?
