Sounds like you weren't fluid resuscitated enough postop leading into the AKI, but that's just calling it from the sideline in hindsight...12h+ case you were probably edematous like the Michelin man and the overnight ICU resident probably didn't wanna blow your fresh anastomoses or flood your lungs. You know the sucky part? Your story is literally run of the mill for most major surgonc whacks and HIPECs I've seen...all those complications so common and familiar I could swear you were one of the patients I took care of. That being said, it speaks volumes for your character. We always say, "man that guy is so nice, sucks everything that could go wrong is going wrong for him" and the converse, "man that guy's an asshole, he's gonna live forever." Let me be real with you. SSI are now considered "never events" in terms of state/federal medical billing. No half wit surgeon would now ever diagnose a wound infection as a SSI; it's like shooting yourself in the foot. Good luck accruing data.
