My pup likes to take a sample of both her food and the cat's food (just a few pieces each), take them to the couch, eat them, get down, and do it all over again. She doesn't do it all the time, but I like to think of it as her version of going to the fridge for a snack

There's a lot to it. Part of it is the uncertainty that comes with little Ming marrying someone who doesn't necessarily know/jive with all the Chinese customs that come with being a son/daughter in law. For instance, my girlfriend's parents still don't seem to have it in their heads that if we were to get married, the probability of my parents coming to China to talk with them first is little to none, especially since neither of them speaks decent Mandarin, let alone English, and my parents sure as hell don't speak Chinese.

It's also important to remember that parents rely on their kids in old age much more frequently in Asian cultures than in Western ones. Having your kid marry someone who could potentially take them out of that tradition or move somewhere far away is threatening to the parents' retirement plan.

There's also significantly more xenophobia in China than is even remotely acceptable in most Western countries. China is almost entirely Han, with other ethnicities mostly assimilated and not varying in appearance. You can find more diversity in NYC than in all of China, so for most parents, the kid being with someone who's not Chinese is so out of left field that it's hard to wrap their head around.

I’ve been doing translation work for years, and I have the same mentality as you do, but let me tell you it’s bitten me in the ass more times than not. Charge market rates, even if you’re not sure your work is worth them, just do it and the extra pressure will help you rise to the occasion. It seems reddit thinks your work is worth at least 100 per project, so that’s what you should be charging, or at least trying to get. I’m sorry your country is in such a shitty place right now. I’d love to help but unfortunately I’m pretty poor myself. Does Venezuela is cryptocurrency at all? I’d recommend trying to find places that accept bitcoin or another currency since those, while still volatile, aren’t subject to the machinations of your government

He made a well thought out case for using blockchain for his product. I’m not for blockchain for everything, but I can appreciate his reasoning for applying it to this case.
