THATS WHAT IT'S CALLED!!! I took beginning and intermediate programming with C++ this Summer and I kept calling it, "unwinding the recursion." I knew that probably wasn't right but I only saw the behavior I didn't read about it and that's the best I could come up with.

I can tell you when that situation would be... When Hell freezes over and everyone is dead. Air strike coordination is mostly done by a TAC/P, an Air Force specialist embedded with the Army. A few other specialists can do it as well, (in particular Marines have their own specialists who do this) but NEVER would you trust the precision placement of a potential 2,000 lb smart bomb to an untrained person. Even the specialists sometimes screw up, and get people killed a medic would be told to STFU and get to the back.

Where do you commonly see people using recursion when a simple loop would suffice?

Also, thanks for all of your contributions to helping everyone learn. As a CS teacher, I aspire to be as clear in my explanations.
